The Northville Hills Golf Club Hole by Hole Description

Northville Hills Golf Club is an Arnold Palmer Signature Golf Course specifically designed to challenge the daily fee golfer. Its unique course layout brings to play all that Michigan golf has to offer — native woodlands, natural wetland areas, lakes and rolling slopes of "Michigan Heather". The course ranges from 5,166 yards to a challenging, yet enjoyable 6,907 yards with wide expansive fairways, enormous greens, multiple tees for every type of player and other memorable features. Northville Hills Golf Club is an Arnie’s Army golf course designed to provide every golfer a memorable experience again and again.

Hole 1:

Staying left off the tee on this opening hole is the key to success; hit it down the right side equates to significant trouble. The green sits high on a small hill so your second shot into the green must be a high lofty approach — the green slopes severely from back to front. If you’re short on your approach shot, your ball will fall off the green, down to the bottom of the fairway.

Hole 2:

A large wetland separates the tees from the green on this short Par 3, but don’t be fooled by its short length. You still have to get onto the green. Wetlands in front and left, bunkers in back with a bail out area short and right of the green-should you need it. A nice easy 6-7 iron will get you there, so get close and get your birdie here.

Hole 3:

The toughest par 5 on the golf course! Drive down the right side just left of the mounds, it’s down hill and there is a "kicker mound" that will add an additional 40-50 yards on your drive while rolling your ball back into the middle of the fairway. From here, about 175-185 yards out, you can either go for it or hit short and left, but be accurate, bunkers and swales surround this enormous green.

Hole 4:

A great up hill par 4 with no fairway bunker, so you can "let it all hang out here", but stay away from the wetland bogs that dot the edges of the rough. A bunker, short right, guards that side of the green while mounds and ridges guard the left side. Your second shot into the green must be on the dance floor. The green is huge and another birdie chance is possible.

Hole 5:

Another big stick, down hill, with no fairway bunker. There are boulders in the right rough, so you must direct your ball down the left side of the fairway and other "kicker" will bring you back into the middle of the fairway. Now with 120-140 yards left to the green, play it safe and straight by hitting a mid-iron. Bunkers and swales guard both sides of the green with wetlands behind. There is no room for error here. If you walk away with par, be happy.

Hole 6:

Play safe and play smart to get your par here. Drive your ball just over the left edge of the fairway bunkers and get the "kicker" bounce back to the middle. From there, you will have a clear shot into the green. If your tee shot is out to the left, you will be further away from the green and will have to hit over a wetland, a swale and bunker to get to the green, that you cannot see.

Hole 7:

The longest par 5 on the course, drive your play over the left edge of the fairway bunker and the long swale on the other side will give you an extra 50-75 yards back to the middle of the fairway. Put your second shot just short and left of the green, just in front of the green side bunker. Pitch your third shot up close and get your par. A timber wall frames in the wetlands on the left and large moguls guard the far-left side of the green.

Hole 8:

This quaint par 3 demands respect with wetlands down the entire right side, trees on the left and a small green with more wetlands front right. Your tee shot has to be on the money.

Hole 9:

Though your tee shot has to be good, your second shot across 75-100 yards of water to a narrow green has to be better. If you want to play it safe, there is a small fairway area to the right of the green. Drive your ball down the left side of the fairway for this approach. If you are going for the green on your second shot, aim down the right side and get the kick to bring your ball up close to the lake edge. Pull out a mid-iron to get to the green. A large green side bunker on the left side of the green will provide some help if you stray.

Hole 10:

A birdie is very likely on this hole, or hit your "big dog" over the left edge of the right fairway bunker and get the 75-100 yard roll back to the left and try for an eagle on your second shot. The green is protected with several bunkers short and left and a grove of trees on the right. Your best shot would be to aim down the middle and get the ball to roll up onto the green.

Hole 11:

The second hardest par 3 on this course with a lake on the right, expansive wetlands down the left side, and a bunker front and back left of the green. The green is deep allowing you to fade or draw the ball, or for a safer play, drive up the middle and bounce the ball onto the green. If you leave with a par, pick up your ball and be happy.

Hole 12:

This hole provides another great opportunity to get a birdie. With the wind at your back and a big swing, golfers can drive the green over the large wetlands on the left.

Hole 13:

Be long and left on this par 4 hole. This unique dogleg right has a wetland gorge just in front of the tees, and on the other side is a two tiered fairway for those who are lucky and those who are not. Golfers that drive left on the top tier will have a longer approach shot to the green but will avoid the trees on the right side of the fairway. Golfers on the bottom tier will have to take their chances of either going for the green over the trees or pitch up and left to advance the ball down the fairway. The green is bunkered on the left with a bluegrass bluff on the right beyond the trees. Good Luck!

Hole 14:

The first of three great par 4’s, this hole features a lake down the right side with a severe contoured bank, a fairway bunker just right of the landing area, wetlands between the landing area and green, as well as the severe mounding and swales to the left. The good news is the landing area is very wide — so hang it all out. Drive your ball towards the large mounds in the distance, left and center of the fairway. From here, it is a mid-iron to a deep green protected with hazards on all three sides. Drop your partner off at the footbridge and take the golf cart across the bridges to the turn-around, behind the green.

Hole 15:

Two additional bridges and a short drive around the wetland will bring you to the only dogleg left on the golf course. The fairway is very wide and mounds on the right will bring your ball back to the left with added roll. Drive your ball straight towards the large fairway bunker, but beware of placing your ball on the left side where wetlands and pine trees block the green. The green is very deep with a bunker and more wetlands on the left along with bluegrass hollows on the right.

Hole 16:

A large American Elm tree marks the right side of the landing area for this dogleg right. Hit left of the tree (too far left will cause some of Arnie’s mounds to roll the ball back to the right) for the perfect second shot to the green. There is a fairway to the right of the tree if you can "thread the needle," but there is also lots of trouble on this side of the fairway. Bunkers guard the left side of the green with swales and mounds on the right.

Hole 17:

The best par 3 on the course and the toughest. There is no room for error on this hole. Hit your shot over the lake to a narrow green. Keep in mind there is a nice fairway area short right of the green for the less brave.

Hole 18:

The finishing hole brings you back towards the silos on #1-that is your target. Drive your ball just right of the left fairway bunker. The green is not reachable in two; so drive your second shot down towards the creek to set up for a pitching wedge to a two tiered green. Though an easy driving hole, it’s the green that will challenge you. Your approach to the green must be below the hole for a birdie attempt, otherwise you may be putting for par.
